Each century has its own style. And the ‘80s were a decade full of bold fashion statements and bright colors.
But fashion never really goes out of style. It comes back again in a new century with its own twist and here are 10 fashion trends of the ‘80s that are making its way back to fashion history today.
1. High-waisted Jeans
Anything high-waisted was a thing in the ‘80s. From Tina Turner to Madonna, everyone was wearing high-waisted jeans.
And now it’s making its way back in 2019!
Low-rise jeans are out of the picture and high-waisted, slightly baggy jeans are once again taking the world by storm.
2. Patch-work Denim
Denim was all the rage back in the ‘80s. If you wanted a pair of denim jeans or a denim jacket, you could buy those with patchwork details.
And now, patch-work denim is back. You can even customize the denim that you already have with ready-made embroidered patches.
Have you seen the patches sold in Forever 21? They’re really cute.
3. Ray-Ban Wayfarer
Such a classic. These famous pair of sunglasses were worn by celebrities, like Tom Cruise in his movie “Risky Business” back in 1983.
To date, it’s still one of Ray-Ban’s most famous sunglasses. You can never go wrong with a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
4. Cropped Jeans
In the ‘80s, cropped jeans were actually called “pegged” jeans. They were your regular jeans but rolled into a tight cuff.
Today, cropped jeans are back in style and they’ve made their own twist by making the hemlines uneven.
5. Power suits
Suits weren’t only made for men. They were meant for women, too.
Power suits were a trend that quickly rose up after the movie “Working Girl” and is now coming back in style with celebrities like Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift wearing power suits.
6. Fanny Packs
Back in the ‘80s, Fanny Packs were used for practical purposes, but today, they are a fashion staple.
Designer fanny packs of different styles are available to match your outfits. Some might think they’re tacky, but celebrities and models alike can prove otherwise.
One major trend in the ‘80s, ruffles, has also made its comeback today.
In the ‘80s, it was most popular in frilly, really girly, prom dresses, but today, ruffles aren’t that prominent and have been refined to make it look more sophisticated.
If you thought this style was only popular now, think again.
Off-the-Shoulder clothes were very famous back in the ‘80s. You could see this style of clothing in classic movies, like Pretty in Pink and Heathers.
Today, the off-the-shoulder style can be found in the most stylish tops and dresses.
9. Customized Denim Jackets
Another denim staple in the ‘80s has made its way to 2019. In the ‘80s, you could wear denim jackets on denim jeans.
Today, denim and denim fashion is just as cool as it was way back then. If you didn’t own an oversized denim jacket customized with patches or pins, you were probably born in the wrong era.
10. Mini Skirts
Made famous by fashion icon Twiggy and the fashion statement in the ‘80s flicks like Heathers and Teen Witch, these mini skirts are finally making a huge comeback in today’s fashion.
Now that you know about these ‘80s fashion trends, take a look at your wardrobe. What are your fashion choices today that were the staple fashion choices back in the ‘80s?
